Friday: Motivation

"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." ~Albert Schweitzer

Ahhh…. The power of networking! Who’s inner spirit can you rekindle today?

Thursday: Goals

"Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek." ~Mario Andretti

It is so much easier to stay focused and positive when you have goals set and you see yourself achieving them! Causing things to come to fruition is a powerful motivator!

When you’re “on a roll”, you roll faster!

Wednesday: Positive Attitude

"Up is never where you are now." ~Belasco & Stayer

I had to stop and think about that one. WOW! I love it! It doesn’t matter how good things are now. It doesn’t matter how bad they may seem. It’s all in how you look at it. It can always be better. You can always go up!

“If you will call your troubles ‘experiences’, and remember that every experience develops some latent force within you, you will grow vigorous and happy, however adverse your circumstances may seem to be." ~John R. Miller

Tuesday: Focus

“I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.” ~Larry Bird

Focus, focus, focus! “100% all of the time” is not that hard when you concentrate all your efforts on the task at hand.

“Put your heart, mind, intellect and soul even to your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.” ~Swami Sivananda

Monday: Preparation

"It's not the will to win that matters; everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters." ~Paul Bryant

I had a great networking session on Friday with Action Coach Tom Maier (www.actioncoach.com/tommaier) and reaffirmed my strong belief in the importance and power of a plan. I followed that great meeting with a fantastic lunch with a friend who is struggling to crate the path to his 20 year plan. He used to have one, he told me, but lost sight of it somewhere along the way. I started thinking again about my own long term plan. Given what I know about where I want to be, and Tom’s guidance around breaking down my long term plan into 30, 60, and 90 day bites, I am reenergized, recommitted, and reengaged! Here are three take-a-ways: 1) You really do need a plan. 2) You need to be able to break that plan down into steps that will help you actually see that plan through. 3) Networking Rocks! The energy is incredible and the encouragement is priceless! Happy Monday everyone!!

Tuesday: Focus

“The key is not to prioritize your schedule but to schedule your priorities.” ~ Stephen R. Covey

Everything seems like a Priority One when you’re under stress and pressure. So, let them be. I have always struggled with figuring out what to do first when I have competing priorities. But what I’m starting to come to terms with, is that “first things first” doesn’t always work. Of course it does sometimes… I’m not going to post my blog until I write it. I’m not going to send a business letter out until I research. But it’s not always that cut and dry. So, instead I’m working on scheduling my priorities. From 9 – 10, I’ll do THIS; from 10 – 11, I’ll do THIS, etc. So far, it’s working! Do you know which priorities you’ll focus on today?

Monday: Preparation

“Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am prepared for a great week! A little planning over the weekend, coupled with an extremely positive outlook this morning and some momentum from last week… and I’m ready! Happy Monday Everyone!

Friday: Motivation

“Life is not about discovering our talents; it is about pushing our talents to the limit and discovering our genius.” ~Robert Brault

I believe that we all have genius. I believe that we humans are capable of achieving unbelievable things, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles and challenges, and truly shocking ourselves by what we can accomplish. And, I’m not just referring to the rocket scientists who launched us into outer space successfully, or the brain surgeons who have saved countless lives, or the emergency first responders who risk their lives every day for that of someone else. I’m talking about us; you and me. If we let ourselves, we can recognize our inner strength, acknowledge our inner beauty, and unlock our inner potential.

Have you unleashed your hidden genius lately?

Thursday: Goals

“You measure the size of the accomplishment by the obstacles you had to overcome to reach your goals.” ~Booker T. Washington

When I look back at the things I am proudest of, they are in fact, the things that required the most work, or the longest endurance. There is a silver lining… maybe even a platinum one. And, this too shall pass…

Stay on it, and keep moving forward.

Tuesday: Focus

“The essential question is not, "How busy are you?" but "What are you busy at?"“ ~Oprah Winfrey

What ARE you busy at? Are you focused on your goals, or did you get distracted while you weren’t looking? Good intentions are great… as long as you stick to your intentions… And, if you didn’t yesterday, don’t beat yourself up over it; try again today!

“We have a choice every day - to act on yesterday's good intentions or get an early start on tomorrow's regrets.” ~Robert Brault

And, don’t get distracted by not looking ahead towards your goal…

“Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the Forest that was left out by mistake.” ~Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A.A. Milne

Yes, one more quote for you today, “The most valuable lesson man has learned from his dog is to kick a few blades of grass over it and move on.” ~Robert Brault

Monday: Preparation

“I get up every morning determined to both change the world and to have one hell of a good time. Sometimes, this makes planning the day difficult." ~E. B. White

If it were easy, they wouldn’t call it work! Planning the day or the week isn’t always easy. Sometimes we have to make hard choices. Sometimes we have to choose between competing priorities. And, sometimes life just gets in the way of what we have planned out and prepared for. But it’s still the first step to success. A well thought out plan and the preparation and drive to tackle the tasks are critical. Preparing your workspace, preparing your mind (and mindset), and preparing for the possibility that you can’t prepare for everything, well, that’s our challenge! Are you prepared for the week that lies ahead?

Friday: Motivation

“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough. “ ~ Og Mandino

I participated yesterday in a great conversation on twitter around being “bold”. @TechTrak took issue with a re-tweet of the quote, “Hope is the power that gives a person the confidence to step out and try.” by Zig Ziglar. @TechTrak feels that it is being BOLD that has the power. I feel that without hope, dreams, goals... there is little reason to be bold; that these things provide the necessary motivation to take action and accomplish things. He partially agreed saying that, “Motivation is closer to boldness than hope”, but that you are, “skirting issues if you don't have GUTS.” So, on this “Motivation Friday”, I ask you: Are you bold? Do you have guts? Is your determination to succeed strong enough?

“Nature decrees that we do not exceed the speed of light. All other impossibilities are optional.” ~Robert Brault

Thursday: Goals

“The road leading to a goal does not separate you from the destination; it is essentially a part of it.” ~Charles DeLint

Sometimes the path is as exciting as the destination! I remember fondly and vividly riding in the back (WAY BACK) of my grandparents’ car as we drove to South Florida from New Jersey. I can still smell the hot chocolate in the thermos my grandfather packed for me. It wasn’t really a “fun” ride for a kid. Frankly, we were in the car for two days! And the destination, actually getting to Florida, seemed like it was too far away to grasp. Yet, years later, it’s not the hotel I recall. It’s not the beach or the pool I think about first when I look back on those trips. It’s the car ride. Are you enjoying the journey?

Wednesday: Positive Attitude

“There is nothing so easy but that it becomes difficult when you do it reluctantly. “ ~Publius Terentius Afer

Well, except getting up my driveway in my front wheel drive sedan after even only 1 inch of snow... But that’s another story.

Being reluctant to do something is likely not the best way to go about doing it. We have the power to choose our attitude about how we look at things. If we’re reluctant to do something, certainly it will be more difficult to get started, more challenging to get through, and more likely to cause stress and aggravation. If we look forward to the challenge, embrace the possibilities, and jump over the hurdle, it is much more likely we will be filled with a strong sense of pride and accomplishment. Which will you choose today?

Tuesday: Focus

“Nothing can add more power to your life than concentrating all your energies on a limited set of targets.” Nido Qubein

Sometimes it is really hard to clear your mind of the noise. The world of technology in which we live today makes it very hard for some (me!) to unplug and focus on the task at hand. I want to check Twitter or Facebook to make sure I’m not missing any big news. I hear the notification that an email has come in and I immediately feel like I have to go check it. I have had to devise a complex mind game… really, I just turn the volume off on my computer and log out of every browser and stay focused on the target. OK, fine. But I work from home… so what about the laundry, or the grocery shopping… And I got up extra early this morning to take a call from China, so how about a nap… Discipline and focus are, in my opinion, two of the biggest hurdles to get over when you’re feeling any lack of motivation. So here’s the reminder for today, mostly because I need it! FOCUS ON YOUR SUCCESS! Do you have that target in mind? Can you see it? Don’t falter… Go get it!

Monday: Preparation

“There are many wonderful things that will never be done if you do not do them.” ~Charles D. Gill

So, it’s February 1st. Do you still have the same resolve you had on January 1st (or 2nd, depending on how hard you played on New Year’s Eve…)? Where are you in your 2010 plan? Is time passing too quickly, or too slowly? Or, are you right on track? What are you doing to stay focused and motivated? Are you networking? Are you helping others? Are you participating in an accountability group? Or, did you wake up this morning exclaiming, “HOLY COW IT’S FEBRUARY!” Is this exactly the kick in the pants you needed? Well, don’t look back; you’re not going that way! Look to your future. Decide today what your plan will be for this month, and execute. And just keep in mind, “you may not be there yet, but you’re closer than you were yesterday.”
