Tuesday: Focus

“The essential question is not, "How busy are you?" but "What are you busy at?"“ ~Oprah Winfrey

What ARE you busy at? Are you focused on your goals, or did you get distracted while you weren’t looking? Good intentions are great… as long as you stick to your intentions… And, if you didn’t yesterday, don’t beat yourself up over it; try again today!

“We have a choice every day - to act on yesterday's good intentions or get an early start on tomorrow's regrets.” ~Robert Brault

And, don’t get distracted by not looking ahead towards your goal…

“Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the Forest that was left out by mistake.” ~Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A.A. Milne

Yes, one more quote for you today, “The most valuable lesson man has learned from his dog is to kick a few blades of grass over it and move on.” ~Robert Brault

Monday: Preparation

“I get up every morning determined to both change the world and to have one hell of a good time. Sometimes, this makes planning the day difficult." ~E. B. White

If it were easy, they wouldn’t call it work! Planning the day or the week isn’t always easy. Sometimes we have to make hard choices. Sometimes we have to choose between competing priorities. And, sometimes life just gets in the way of what we have planned out and prepared for. But it’s still the first step to success. A well thought out plan and the preparation and drive to tackle the tasks are critical. Preparing your workspace, preparing your mind (and mindset), and preparing for the possibility that you can’t prepare for everything, well, that’s our challenge! Are you prepared for the week that lies ahead?

Friday: Motivation

“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough. “ ~ Og Mandino

I participated yesterday in a great conversation on twitter around being “bold”. @TechTrak took issue with a re-tweet of the quote, “Hope is the power that gives a person the confidence to step out and try.” by Zig Ziglar. @TechTrak feels that it is being BOLD that has the power. I feel that without hope, dreams, goals... there is little reason to be bold; that these things provide the necessary motivation to take action and accomplish things. He partially agreed saying that, “Motivation is closer to boldness than hope”, but that you are, “skirting issues if you don't have GUTS.” So, on this “Motivation Friday”, I ask you: Are you bold? Do you have guts? Is your determination to succeed strong enough?

“Nature decrees that we do not exceed the speed of light. All other impossibilities are optional.” ~Robert Brault

Thursday: Goals

“The road leading to a goal does not separate you from the destination; it is essentially a part of it.” ~Charles DeLint

Sometimes the path is as exciting as the destination! I remember fondly and vividly riding in the back (WAY BACK) of my grandparents’ car as we drove to South Florida from New Jersey. I can still smell the hot chocolate in the thermos my grandfather packed for me. It wasn’t really a “fun” ride for a kid. Frankly, we were in the car for two days! And the destination, actually getting to Florida, seemed like it was too far away to grasp. Yet, years later, it’s not the hotel I recall. It’s not the beach or the pool I think about first when I look back on those trips. It’s the car ride. Are you enjoying the journey?

Wednesday: Positive Attitude

“There is nothing so easy but that it becomes difficult when you do it reluctantly. “ ~Publius Terentius Afer

Well, except getting up my driveway in my front wheel drive sedan after even only 1 inch of snow... But that’s another story.

Being reluctant to do something is likely not the best way to go about doing it. We have the power to choose our attitude about how we look at things. If we’re reluctant to do something, certainly it will be more difficult to get started, more challenging to get through, and more likely to cause stress and aggravation. If we look forward to the challenge, embrace the possibilities, and jump over the hurdle, it is much more likely we will be filled with a strong sense of pride and accomplishment. Which will you choose today?

Tuesday: Focus

“Nothing can add more power to your life than concentrating all your energies on a limited set of targets.” Nido Qubein

Sometimes it is really hard to clear your mind of the noise. The world of technology in which we live today makes it very hard for some (me!) to unplug and focus on the task at hand. I want to check Twitter or Facebook to make sure I’m not missing any big news. I hear the notification that an email has come in and I immediately feel like I have to go check it. I have had to devise a complex mind game… really, I just turn the volume off on my computer and log out of every browser and stay focused on the target. OK, fine. But I work from home… so what about the laundry, or the grocery shopping… And I got up extra early this morning to take a call from China, so how about a nap… Discipline and focus are, in my opinion, two of the biggest hurdles to get over when you’re feeling any lack of motivation. So here’s the reminder for today, mostly because I need it! FOCUS ON YOUR SUCCESS! Do you have that target in mind? Can you see it? Don’t falter… Go get it!

Monday: Preparation

“There are many wonderful things that will never be done if you do not do them.” ~Charles D. Gill

So, it’s February 1st. Do you still have the same resolve you had on January 1st (or 2nd, depending on how hard you played on New Year’s Eve…)? Where are you in your 2010 plan? Is time passing too quickly, or too slowly? Or, are you right on track? What are you doing to stay focused and motivated? Are you networking? Are you helping others? Are you participating in an accountability group? Or, did you wake up this morning exclaiming, “HOLY COW IT’S FEBRUARY!” Is this exactly the kick in the pants you needed? Well, don’t look back; you’re not going that way! Look to your future. Decide today what your plan will be for this month, and execute. And just keep in mind, “you may not be there yet, but you’re closer than you were yesterday.”
